What to Expect at Your First Appointment with A Financial Advisor Consultant

Posted by Shanna Tingom, AAMS® on Nov 13, 2017 3:22:00 PM

My Grandpa Maxwell, known as Junior to family and friends, HATED going to the doctor and he would avoid it at all costs. He was afraid the doctor would find something wrong and he’d rather avoid the news than deal with it. I am willing to bet a lot of people feel the same way about visiting a financial professional.

When you visit my office, you can expect your first appointment to be professional and friendly, just like me. Expect that we will talk about what you’re doing right when it comes to money and investments, where you can make changes, and how I can help you achieve your retirement dreams.

It starts with having proper expectations and coming prepared to your meeting with a financial advisor consultant at Heritage Financial Strategies.

You won’t walk out of the first appointment with an investment plan, and if you have specific financial or investment related questions, I won’t be able to answer those until we’ve agreed to work together. You will walk away knowing more about me and my firm so that you will you what our relationship will look like if we decide to work together.

New clients are asked for basic information prior to our first meeting, including completing a risk assessment online to help me determine your attitude toward risks and investing. We will send you a packet of information on our firm and how we work.  We’d love for you to review it, and come up with some questions for us before we meet.

Don't worry, if you don’t have time to review the packet or just don’t know what to ask, check out my blog post Questions to Ask a Financial Professional Before Investing Money with Them that includes:

  • How do fully licensed financial professionals get paid?
  • What does fully licensed mean?
  • What kind of continuing education is required?
  • What can clients expect when working with Heritage Financial Strategies?

During our initial meeting, I will explain how I work, how I get paid, and the plan for the next six months should you decide to hire me.

Before our meeting ends, we’ll decide if we can both see a way of working together. Don’t worry, I’m not going to lock the door or give you the hard-sell. Because I’m the only financial advisor consultant in our practice, I can’t work with everyone that comes into my office. If I feel like I can help you, and you feel the same, then we’ll come to an agreement on what that would like by the end of our meeting.

It is always my goal to help my clients meet their financial goals.
